Equine Program at Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech is proud to offer an excellent Equine Science Program. The program includes all aspects of the equine world, from science-based academic classes, hands-on lab experiences, equitation classes, to internships for anyone who is interested in horses.

The Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science degree with an equine emphasis program, and within that program, students can decide on a curriculum based on Production, Business, or Science. Smithfield is also located on campus, and is home to Tech's equine breeding program. The program has a wide variety of mares in the breeding herd, and students are able to be closely involved with the entire process of breeding, foaling, and handling all the horses.
