Equine Science at Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech is proud to offer students many wonderful opportunities in Equine Science. The Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science degree with an equine emphasis that includes all aspects of the equine world, from science-based academic classes, to hands-on lab experiences, equitation classes, and internships for anyone interested in horses. Within that program, students can decide on a curriculum based on Production, Business, or Science. Smithfield is located on campus, and is home to Virginia Tech's equine breeding program. This program has a wide variety of mares in the breeding herd, and students are able to be closely involved with the entire process of breeding, foaling, and handling all the horses.
